Our mission is to provide shelter, health care, love and support to most domestic animals until a permanent home is found.

Adopting a pet from the Shelter

Each animal received at the Shelter receives all necessary shots and is spayed or neutered. Each animal is also assessed individually for personality and social behavior before being readied for adoption. All new owners are interviewed as to the type of home and family that will be adopting, including the household’s history and experience with pets. Our goal is to provide a loving home by carefully matching pet and new pet owner. Please click the adopt tab to check out our available animals.

Surrendering a pet to the Shelter is FREE

Pets may be brought to the Shelter during the hours when the Shelter is open. It is always recommended that you call first – (508-627-8662), as all animals require an assessment evaluation. Dog assessments are usually done on Wednesdays. We will gather a comprehensive history on your pet to ensure an appropriate and successful adoptive home. Any medical records/history you may have will be very helpful. The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is a no-kill Shelter and we strive to place each relinquished pet in the best home for the pet and new owner.
