Martha’s Vineyard Community Services Head Start program offers a comprehensive, home-based preschool program for families with children 3-5 years of age. Believing that parents are the child’s most important teacher, staff and parents work in partnership to promote the child’s growth and development. The program includes: weekly home visits; parent/child socializations; parent education group; health screenings; family activities; parent involvement and leadership activities. There is no fee for the program. Eligibility is based on income and/or special need.
Head Start supports the entire family by providing:
- Weekly home visits with individualized curriculum
- Parent/child socializations in various Island locations
- Parent education group with on-site childcare for siblings
- Parent involvement and leadership opportunities
- Health and developmental screenings
- Parent activities
- Family activities
- Kindergarten transition supports
- Referrals supports for any family member
Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of education, health, nutrition and social services to children and their families.
