Health Imperatives, a nonprofit agency that serves low-income and vulnerable families and individuals, provides programs in sexual and reproductive health, nutrition and health education on Martha’s Vineyard, including:
Sexual and Reproductive Health/family planning: Pregnancy prevention and birth control, HIV prevention (PrEP and PEP), STD testing and treatment including HIV, Hepatitis C, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, cancer screenings, and male and female exams. Insurances accepted. Sliding fee scale for those without insurance. 508-693-1208
WIC Nutrition: FREE Nutrition assistance for income eligible families with children ages five and under including healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals for healthcare and other services. 508-771-7896
Harm Reduction: A range of harm reduction services are available.
Overdose Prevention – education and Narcan Training
Syringe Services – access to clean syringes and disposal services
Addiction care – linkage to care for addiction, including referrals to rehabilitation centers and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addiction.
PrEP – PrEP navigation services (pill taken daily to prevent HIV).
Healthy Families: FREE Supports, resources, transportation, and education to assist young parents in raising healthy, happy children. 508-540-2968
Universal Hormone Therapy: Also known as gender affirming hormone therapy for current and new transgender and gender non-binary clients who are 18 years and older. Offer support for clients seeking referrals for gender-affirming surgeries and fertility preservation, such as sperm and egg banking. A letter from a therapist is not required to start hormone therapy. We offer support accessing medications, as well as referrals for other types of care
Although the clinic doesn’t offer abortions or vasectomies, the Friends of Family Planning will reimburse expenses to the men and women who have to travel off-Island for these procedures. For details about us or services, please visit our website or Facebook page, or call the clinic.
We accept all Commonwealth Care insurances, Mass Health, and most private insurance health plans. For people without insurance, costs are based on a sliding fee scale according to patient’s family size and income. We can also help eligible clients with insurance enrollment and/or Massachusetts HIV Drug Assistance Program (HDAP). No one is ever denied services because of inability to pay. Our staff members speak English, Portuguese and Spanish. All of our services are provided confidentially to all genders.
