The Vineyard Committee on Hunger (VCOH) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to alleviate hunger on the Island through self-help initiatives and raising awareness. The funds raised by the VCOH are distributed to 4 major relief groups on the Island: The Island Food Pantry, Serving Hands Food Distribution, Family to Family Holiday Meals, and Meals on Wheels.
Serving Hands Food Distribution Program
Serving Hands distributes food out of the First Baptist Church Parish House located at the corner of William and Spring Streets in Vineyard Haven. Clients are given 4-5 bags of groceries that they choose for themselves. These items include fresh or frozen meat, eggs, dairy products, fresh produce, grocery staples and other frozen items.
Serving Hands is open the Friday following the 4th Thursday of the month, year around. The hours are from 2-3 pm. Clients must meet the income guidelines or bring their Pantry Card with them. Clients also have the opportunity to fill out an application for SNAP, Fuel Assistance or other federal programs while they are visiting Serving Hands. If you have a pantry card, please bring it. Contact Betty Burton at 508-693-5339 for information.
Family to Family Program (F2F)
The F2F Program provides holiday meals to needy individuals for the three major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter). Baskets are distributed the Friday before the holidays, 2-4pm. The baskets generally include a turkey or ham, bags of apples, oranges, onions, potatoes, spinach and carrots. Other items are given out as available.
